craniology
Head shape study
Craniology is the study of skull characteristics—size, shape, and proportions—especially as once believed to indicate mental capacity or racial classification.
The field flourished in the 19th century alongside phrenology and scientific racism, using skull measurements to rank human groups.
Now largely discredited, craniology persists mainly in forensic and archaeological contexts for identifying remains.
