coppering
Sheathing with metal
Coppering is the process of coating or sheathing something with copper.
Historically, coppering referred to covering a ship's hull with copper plates to protect against barnacles and marine worms: The navy began coppering its vessels in the late eighteenth century.
The term extends to any application of copper coating for protection or conductivity.
