earthing

Connecting to ground

Earthing is the British term for what Americans call grounding—connecting electrical equipment to the earth for safety.

The practice prevents dangerous voltage buildup by providing a path for stray current: Check that the appliance is properly earthed.

Earthing also names a wellness practice of walking barefoot to absorb the earth's electrical charge, claimed to reduce inflammation and improve sleep.
