unsheathing

Pulling sword out

Unsheathing is the act of drawing something from its protective covering, most often a sword or blade from its sheath: The knight's unsheathing of his sword silenced the room.

The word extends to anything revealed or deployed after being concealed: the unsheathing of claws, the unsheathing of a new policy.
