computed tomography

X-ray slice imaging

Computed tomography is a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays taken from multiple angles to create cross-sectional images of the body.

A computer assembles these slices into detailed pictures of bones, organs, and soft tissues.

Usually shortened to CT: The CT scan revealed a small tumor.

Also called a CAT scan (computed axial tomography).
