cochleas
Inner ear spirals
Cochleas is the plural of cochlea, the spiral-shaped cavity in the inner ear that converts sound vibrations into nerve signals sent to the brain.
The structure resembles a snail shell, coiled two and a half turns.
Damage to the cochleas causes hearing loss: The study examined cochleas from patients with age-related deafness.
