coati

Long-nosed forager

A coati is a raccoon-like mammal native to Central and South America, with a long snout and ringed tail.

Coatis travel in bands, foraging on the ground and in trees for fruit, insects, and small animals.

The name comes from a Tupi word.

We spotted a coati raiding the campsite trash.
