Culloden

Jacobite rebellion's end

Culloden is the site of the 1746 battle in Scotland where British government forces crushed the Jacobite rising, ending Stuart claims to the throne.

The name evokes the destruction of Highland clan culture that followed—the banning of tartan, the clearing of crofters.

Culloden marked the end of an era.
