chokecherry
Tart wild fruit
Chokecherry is a North American shrub or small tree bearing clusters of small, dark red to black fruit.
The berries are edible but intensely astringent when raw—apt to make you choke—though they're used in jams, syrups, and wine.
The plant is toxic to livestock.
