pemmican
Dried meat cakes
Pemmican is a concentrated food made from dried meat pounded into powder and mixed with melted fat, sometimes with dried berries.
Originally a Native American preparation, it became essential provisions for fur traders and polar explorers because it keeps indefinitely without refrigeration and packs maximum calories into minimum weight: They carried pemmican for the Arctic expedition.
