ceasefire line
Armistice demarcation zone
A ceasefire line is a boundary where opposing military forces have agreed to stop fighting, though not necessarily to end the conflict permanently.
Unlike a formal border, it marks where armies halted rather than where negotiators drew lines: The ceasefire line divided the region for decades.
The term often appears in contexts where political resolution remains elusive—the ceasefire line between India and Pakistan in Kashmir being a prominent example.
