buffer strip
Land between zones
A buffer strip is a band of vegetation left between developed or agricultural land and a sensitive area like a waterway, wetland, or property boundary.
The vegetation filters runoff, prevents erosion, and provides habitat: The county requires a fifty-foot buffer strip along all streams.
Also called a riparian buffer when bordering water.
