hot zone
Contaminated danger region
A hot zone is an area of acute danger or intense activity.
In military and emergency contexts, it designates a region under fire or contaminated by hazardous materials: Medics couldn't enter the hot zone until the shooting stopped.
The term gained wider use for areas affected by deadly pathogens: The Ebola hot zone in West Africa.
More loosely, any place of concentrated action or risk: That intersection is a hot zone for accidents.
