caucuses

Political planning assemblies

Caucuses is the plural of caucus, a meeting where members of a political party gather to select candidates or decide policy.

In American politics, some states hold caucuses rather than primaries to choose presidential nominees: The Iowa caucuses traditionally kick off the election season.

As a verb, to caucus is to meet in such a group: Progressive members caucused to coordinate their strategy.
