castoff

Someone's former possession

A castoff is something discarded or rejected, especially clothing passed along to someone else: The younger siblings wore their older brother's castoffs.

As an adjective, castoff describes things thrown away or abandoned: castoff furniture, castoff lovers.

In knitting, casting off is the technique for finishing an edge and removing work from the needles.
