ba
Bird-headed spirit
In ancient Egyptian belief, the ba is the soul or personality—depicted as a bird with a human head that could leave the tomb and travel.
The ba represented individuality, distinct from the ka (life force). (Capitalized Ba is the chemical symbol for barium; BA is Bachelor of Arts.)
