mummy case
Pharaoh's final container
A mummy case is a decorated container, usually wooden, shaped to hold a mummified body.
Ancient Egyptian mummy cases were often painted with the deceased's likeness and covered in hieroglyphics and protective symbols.
The case typically fit inside a larger stone sarcophagus: The museum's mummy case still shows traces of blue and gold paint.
