predicate

What follows subjects

A predicate is what is said about the subject of a sentence—the verb and everything that follows it.

In The dog bit the mailman, "bit the mailman" is the predicate.

In logic, a predicate is a property or relation asserted of a subject.

To predicate something is to base it on a condition: The plan was predicated on getting funding by March.

As an adjective, predicate describes grammatical elements: predicate nominative, predicate adjective.
