conjunction

Word linking clauses

A conjunction is an important part of speech used in linking.

In tradition grammar, conjunctions are of two kinds: those that link sentence elements of equal rank are called coordinating conjunctions, and those that introduce a dependent clause are called subordinating conjunctions.

Some conjunctions work in pairs, such as either and or, both and and.

Grammatical meanings aside, conjunction means an act or instance of things being conjoined.
