bodyshell

Car's outer structure

A bodyshell is the main structural frame of a vehicle—the outer metal shell before interior components, engine, and trim are installed.

In automotive manufacturing, bodyshells move along assembly lines to receive their mechanical and interior parts.

The term also applies to replacement shells for damaged vehicles: We found a rust-free bodyshell for the restoration project.
