blindsight
Awareness without consciousness
Blindsight is the ability to respond to visual stimuli without consciously perceiving them, occurring in people with damage to the visual cortex.
Someone with blindsight might navigate around obstacles or detect motion in their "blind" field while reporting seeing nothing: He couldn't see the light, but guessed its location correctly.
The phenomenon reveals that visual processing can occur below the threshold of awareness.
