bitmapping

Drawing with pixels

Bitmapping is representing an image as a grid of pixels, where each pixel stores color or intensity data.

The term describes both the process and the technique: The software uses bitmapping to render text at low resolutions.

Bitmapped graphics scale poorly—enlarging them produces visible pixelation, unlike vector graphics which use mathematical curves.

The approach dominates photography and screen display, where pixel-by-pixel control matters more than scalability.
