biomicroscope

Ocular magnification device

A biomicroscope is a specialized microscope used primarily in ophthalmology to examine the eye in fine detail.

Also called a slit lamp, it combines a high-intensity light source with magnification to allow examination of the cornea, iris, lens, and other structures of the front of the eye.

The ophthalmologist used a biomicroscope to check for cataracts.

The device is standard equipment in eye clinics and optometry offices.
