assess

Gauge the worth

When you assess someone or something, you make an evaluation for a particular purpose: Research teams are assessing the impact GMOs on nearby natural crops.

Assess is a frequent verb in law, medicine, science, and other fields in which anything is studied in order to make a decision or determination: The radiologist has not had a chance to assess the images yet. The judge was in a good position to assess the implications of the lower court’s decision.

If you’re a boss, it may be your job to assess the people who work for you on a regular basis.
