Take for granted
Presume means to suppose something is true without proof, typically with some basis for the assumption: I presume you've already eaten.
It often carries a sense of taking something for granted: Don't presume to tell me how to do my job.
To presume upon something is to take unwarranted advantage: He presumed upon their friendship.
In law, to presume is to accept as true until disproved: presumed innocent until proven guilty.
