masters

Those with authority

Masters is the plural of master—those who have achieved expertise, authority, or control in a domain: The great masters of Renaissance painting.

It also refers to original recordings or documents from which copies are made: The studio kept the masters in a climate-controlled vault.

In academic contexts, a master's degree is often shortened to masters: She's getting her masters in public health. (Capitalized Masters is the golf tournament.)
