Yeshiva

Torah study institution

A yeshiva is a Jewish school devoted to the study of religious texts, especially the Talmud and Torah.

Traditionally for boys and men, yeshivas range from elementary schools to advanced academies where students may spend years in intensive study.

The word comes from Hebrew for "sitting"—students sit and learn together, often in pairs debating interpretations: He spent three years at a yeshiva in Jerusalem.
