Shabbos

Friday sunset rest

Shabbos is the Yiddish term for the Jewish Sabbath, the day of rest observed from Friday sundown to Saturday nightfall.

It appears frequently in contexts involving Orthodox or traditional Jewish life: We're having the whole family over for Shabbos dinner.

The Hebrew form is Shabbat, more common in Israeli and modern Jewish usage.
