Whalers

Blubber-seeking sailors

Whalers are people who hunt whales, or the ships they use for hunting.

Commercial whaling was once a major industry, with whalers pursuing whales for oil, meat, and baleen.

The term also names sports teams, most notably the Hartford Whalers hockey franchise that relocated to Carolina in 1997: My dad still has his old Whalers jersey.
