Tuskegee Airmen

Pioneering African American aviators

The Tuskegee Airmen were African American military pilots who served in the U.S.

Army Air Corps during World War II, trained at Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama.

They were the first Black military aviators in U.S. history, fighting both enemy forces abroad and racial segregation at home.

Their distinguished combat record helped dismantle arguments against integrating the armed forces: My grandfather was one of the Tuskegee Airmen.
