TRACE

Solar observation mission

Trace connects ideas of following a path and leaving a mark.

A trace is a small remaining sign of something: traces of blood, without a trace.

To trace is to follow the course of something back to its origin: trace your ancestry, trace the source of the leak.

It also means to copy by drawing over lines showing through paper.

As a verb, trace can mean to outline or sketch: He traced the shape with his finger.

A trace amount is barely detectable.

In harness, traces are the straps connecting a horse to what it pulls—the origin of kick over the traces, meaning to rebel against restraint.
