Solzhenitsyn

Solzhenitsyn refers to Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn (1918–2008), Russian novelist and historian who documented Soviet labor camps in works like *The Gulag Archipelago* and *One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich*.

His name evokes moral witness against totalitarianism: He's the Solzhenitsyn of North Korean defectors.

Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1970, he was exiled from the Soviet Union in 1974.
