Fidel Castro

Bearded Cuban revolutionary

Fidel Castro was the Cuban revolutionary who overthrew the Batista dictatorship in 1959 and ruled Cuba for nearly fifty years.

His communist government, alliance with the Soviet Union, and defiance of the United States made him a polarizing figure—hero to anti-imperialists, villain to Cold War Americans.

Castro outlasted ten U.S. presidents.
