Sid Vicious
Sid Vicious was the stage name of John Simon Ritchie (1957–1979), bassist for the English punk band the Sex Pistols.
Known more for his sneering attitude and self-destructive behavior than musical ability, he became an icon of punk's nihilistic edge.
He died of a heroin overdose while awaiting trial for the murder of his girlfriend Nancy Spungen.
The name is sometimes invoked to describe someone recklessly chaotic or self-destructively defiant.
