Rom

South Asian diaspora

Rom is a member of the Romani people, a traditionally nomadic ethnic group originating in South Asia and now spread throughout Europe and the Americas.

The plural is Roma or Roms.

Rom and Roma are the terms preferred by the people themselves, replacing the older term Gypsy, which many consider offensive.

The Rom community has faced centuries of persecution.
