apostle

Pioneer of belief

An apostle is someone sent on a mission, originally one of the twelve disciples Jesus chose to spread his teachings.

The term extends to any early Christian missionary, especially Paul.

More broadly, an apostle is a leading advocate of any cause or movement: an apostle of free-market economics, an apostle of nonviolence.

The word implies passionate, pioneering commitment.
