Quark names two unrelated things.

In physics, quarks are elementary particles that combine to form protons, neutrons, and other hadrons—the fundamental building blocks of matter.

Physicists recognize six types or "flavors": up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom.

Separately, quark is a soft, creamy fresh cheese common in German and Eastern European cooking, similar to a thick yogurt: She spread quark on her toast.
