Pequod

Whale hunter's vessel

Pequod is the whaling ship in Herman Melville's novel *Moby-Dick*, captained by the obsessed Ahab in his pursuit of the white whale.

The name, taken from the Pequot people of New England, has become synonymous with doomed voyages driven by monomaniacal purpose: The whole venture had a Pequod quality to it.
