rescue vessel

Saves stranded sailors

A rescue vessel is a ship or boat designed or deployed to save people in distress at sea.

Coast guards, navies, and humanitarian organizations operate rescue vessels to respond to shipwrecks, capsized boats, or stranded swimmers.

The term applies to purpose-built lifeboats as well as any vessel pressed into emergency service: Three fishing boats served as rescue vessels after the ferry sank.
