Peep

Sugary spring treat

Peep has two main clusters of meaning.

One involves quick, furtive looking: to peep through a keyhole, to peep around a corner.

A peep is a brief glimpse: I haven't heard a peep out of them—not a sound, not a glimpse.

A Peeping Tom spies on people, especially through windows.

The other peep is the short, high-pitched sound made by young birds or small creatures: The chicks peeped in the nest.

Peeps are also the marshmallow candies shaped like chicks.

In slang, peeps means people, especially one's friends: I'm hanging with my peeps.
