Lutheranism
German Protestant tradition
Lutheranism is the branch of Protestant Christianity founded on the teachings of Martin Luther, the 16th-century German theologian whose challenge to Catholic doctrine sparked the Reformation.
Central tenets include salvation by faith alone, the authority of scripture over church tradition, and the priesthood of all believers.
Lutheranism became the dominant religion in much of Germany and Scandinavia: She was raised in the Lutheran church.
The term covers both the theology and the institutional churches that follow it.
