black land
Nile's dark earth
Black land is dark, fertile soil rich in organic matter, particularly the alluvial deposits along river floodplains.
The term appears most often in reference to the Nile Delta, where annual flooding left behind nutrient-rich sediment that supported ancient Egyptian agriculture.
More broadly, any notably dark and productive agricultural soil: The black land along the river bottom yielded bumper crops.
