Khartoum
Where Niles meet
Khartoum is the capital and largest city of Sudan, located at the confluence of the Blue Nile and White Nile rivers.
With a metropolitan population of several million, it serves as the country's political, commercial, and cultural center.
The city gained historical notoriety from the 1885 siege in which British General Charles Gordon was killed, an event that shocked Victorian England.
The peace talks were held in Khartoum.
