Munich Agreement
Chamberlain's failed diplomacy
The Munich Agreement was a 1938 pact in which Britain, France, and Italy allowed Nazi Germany to annex the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia.
British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain declared it would bring "peace for our time"; Germany invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia within six months.
The agreement has become shorthand for the folly of appeasing aggressors: Critics called the deal a Munich Agreement for our era.
