aeon

Geological time unit

An aeon is an immeasurably long period of time, often suggesting eternity or near-eternity.

The word appears in religious and philosophical contexts to describe cosmic ages or divine timeframes, and in geology to name the largest divisions of Earth's history.

In everyday use, aeon is hyperbolic: I haven't seen you in aeons.

The spelling eon is more common in American English.
