Low Countries

Netherlands and neighbors

The Low Countries are the historically low-lying coastal region of northwestern Europe comprising the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

The name refers to the flat terrain, much of it at or below sea level.

The Low Countries were a major theater of World War I.

The region is also called Benelux, from the initial letters of the three nations.
