Dutch Republic
Protestant Low Countries
The Dutch Republic was the republican state that governed the northern Netherlands from 1581 to 1795, formally known as the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands.
Born from revolt against Spanish Habsburg rule, it became a major maritime and commercial power during the 17th century—its so-called Golden Age.
The republic was replaced by the Batavian Republic after French invasion.
