Jove

Oath-worthy sky king

Jove is another name for Jupiter, the chief god of Roman mythology.

The word survives mainly in the exclamation by Jove! —an old-fashioned oath expressing surprise or emphasis, now used mostly in jest or to evoke British gentility.

Jovial derives from Jove, reflecting the god's association with good humor.
