Ceres

Roman agricultural deity

Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, now classified as a dwarf planet.

In Roman mythology, Ceres was the goddess of agriculture and grain—the origin of the word cereal.

The astronomical body was named for her when discovered in 1801.
