Erebus

Greek god, darkness

Erebus is the primordial deity of darkness in Greek mythology, born from Chaos and representing the deep shadow of the underworld.

The name extends to a region of Hades through which the dead pass.

Mount Erebus, an active volcano in Antarctica, takes its name from this association with the underworld's darkness.
